On February 1 2021, the WGPR-TV building at 3146 East Jefferson Avenue in Detroit Michigan was officially listed in The National Register of Historical Places in The United States. Prior to that, the WGPR-TV building was recognized in 2018 as a Historical Site by The State of Michigan. But even before that The Scene had been contacted by National Museum of African American History and Culture for some dance footage to be and is it included there in the exhibit on dancing. The Scene has been recognized in 2 books, “From Soupy To Nuts” By Tim Kiska and “TV Land Detroit” by Gordon Castelnero both of which are on Amazon and other notable book outlets.
The Scene Television show is also a part of Black History, so I am very proud to say that I, Nat Morris was a part of that history. My name has become synonymous with the show and the television station that it aired on. The show aired on the nation’s first African American television station, WGPR-TV 62 in Detroit Michigan from October 1975 to December 1987. The Scene was part of the original lineup of show, all produced in-house. Stay tuned to this website for more of the story and more video posts in 2021. I can be reached via my Facebook page.
